Liguria has adopted a new approach to industrial development by providing dedicated funding for research projects and innovation by member companies of the regional centres. These organisations bring together SMEs and large companies with activities and thematic interests in common. In line with the other main Italian regions and European Commission requirements, Liguria intends to avail itself of the centres' support to allocate European member states' industrial development and structural funding to deserving companies. The involvement of the centres allows regional bodies to provide increased technical and scientific assistance to companies and enhance their growth and competitiveness at European and international level. The centres allow the region to increase its interaction with the activities of the cluster at national level, and facilitate access, especially by small businesses, to funding for highly competitive European tenders.
